Anniversary: We Turned Two!

Landon ChapmanChristianity, Personal1 Comment

Last year I commented on my amazement of what can happen in merely a year’s time.  That amazement remains as this site turned two years old last Friday!  Rest assured, this will not be an annual posting but I felt it pertinent to write another anniversary article due to the fact that so much has changed this past year.  Further, it seems as though God continues to bless this ministry and for that, I am both grateful and humbled.

I intend to keep this post pithy, which is against every fiber of my being, so I’m going to simply make a list of the things that happened this year and add a brief comment:

1) Pastor Nate Pickowicz Came Aboard
In a most unexpected occurrence, God brought Pastor Nate into my life and into the ministry of Entreating Favor.  This is the most important thing to happen to Entreating Favor and one of the most important things to have ever happened to me personally.  He and I hit it off from day one and regardless of what comes of Entreating Favor, I have gained a brother for life.  Pastor Nate brings an uncanny ability to write in a scholarly fashion without speaking over the reader’s head.  Further, his Biblical humility permeates his ministry and personality and God is unquestionably doing a great work in and through him in the New England area.  Finally, his heart for teaching is at the forefront of all he does and Entreating Favor and the greater body of Christ is fortunate to have such a pastor in our midst.  But, before Pastor Nate came on board, I first announced…

2) A Public Departure from Pulpit & Pen
As most are aware, about this time last year I had agreed to write and be apart of Pulpit & Pen.  I see no need to rehash the situation but after roughly three months of involvement, I chose to resign from the site.  Personally, this was a monumental shift in that it tested my oft-stated claim that I wasn’t writing and podcasting for notoriety and traffic as P&P garners a large amount of readers and overall traffic.  Entreating Favor was never as well read and visited as when I was with P&P.  That said, after much prayer and consideration, God granted me the strength to live what I preached and I walked away.  It was shortly following that decision when Pastor Nate came on board and we refocused our mission by making…

3) A Purposeful Shift Away from Singularly Focused “Discernment Blogging”
As we examined the past writings at Entreating Favor and the fact that we wanted to begin to be more teaching-oriented, it became clear that I had often fallen into the rut of “discernment blogging”.  Now, I want to be crystal clear, there needs to be discernment-gifted folks writing articles and warning of wolves claiming then name of Christ.  However, it is very easy to fall into a predisposition to seek out error and call out the faulty instead of focusing on Scripture and writing to teach.  Further, it is no secret that writing about the most popular pastors peddling false teaching drives site traffic.  In fact, the top articles on our site are articles written about Andy Stanley.  So, it’s easy to write about what you know people will read, but we chose a different path and I am extremely grateful that God steered us in that direction.  Will we never write a “discerning” post?  Of course we will.  But it’s no longer our primary mission and I feel as though EF is better for it.  Finally, we employed a…

4) New Format for the Fire Away! Podcast
Nate and I spend nearly every day chatting back and forth through Facebook Messenger’s “voice message” feature.  At one point we privately wondered what it might be like to have Pastor Nate join me on the podcast.  The rest, as one might say, is history.  In my personal opinion, the podcast has never been better.  Pastor Nate and I thoroughly enjoy interacting with one another and, to be honest, needling each other as brothers are want to do.  Further, we adopted more of an “interview” type format where we try to have a guest join us for the first half-hour of the program followed by Nate and I having a discussion period at the end.  We have been incredibly fortunate to have guests such as Todd Friel, Dr. Steven Lawson, Gabe Hughes, Elliot Ritzema, Denny Burk, Mike Abendroth, Dan Phillips, Elyse Fitzpatrick, and Grant Castleberry join us on the program.  We have been truly blessed and pray our listeners have as well.

As you can see, it was quite an eventful year.  Please continue to pray that we may be faithful to the Word of God and rightly proclaim His Truths through a format about which previous generations of Christians could only dream.

If you would like to contribute to this ministry and its many sub-components, you may do so by visiting

Thank you again for your ongoing prayers and support as we enter year three.

Soli Deo Gloria!
