ARTICLES I LIKE FROM AROUND THE WEB: (Click title to go to full article) Christmas Carols and the Gospel – “It’s that time of year. Turn on the radio, take a trip to the mall, or simply stroll down the aisles of the local grocery store, and you’re likely to hear songs about Jesus’ birth playing in the background. We call them ‘Christmas carols,’ but they are really Christian hymns celebrating the incarnation of our Lord and Savior. For a few weeks each December, these profound songs of worship become a ubiquitous part of the holiday atmosphere. Our society’s pervasive interest in them provides us with a unique opportunity to share the gospel. It is the perfect time to explain the meaning of these songs to those who don’t know … Read More

ARTICLES I LIKE FROM AROUND THE WEB: (Click title to go to full article) 3 Quick Questions Before Quitting Your Church – “We all know there are times and circumstances in which the only right course of action is to leave a church. If the church leadership has apostatized or proven themselves unqualified for ministry, if they are preaching a false gospel, if they have surrendered to the culture, we need to get out. We can leave these churches boldly and without looking back, shaking the dust from our feet.” The Instagram Bible – “Beware the Instagram Bible, my daughters – those filtered frames festooned with feathered verses, adorned in all manner of loops and tails, bedecked with blossoms, saturated … Read More

ARTICLES I LIKE FROM AROUND THE WEB: (Click title to go to full article) Christian Men and Their Video Games – “If you’re a gamer, or a Christian gamer at least, you’ve rolled your eyes through a hundred articles by now, each one telling you why your gaming is sad, wasteful, pathetic. You’re immature, you’re addicted to pleasure, you’re a dopamine junkie. You might even have found yourself compared to a porn addict since in many minds porn and PlayStations go hand in hand. That’s not what the articles actually say, of course, but it can sure feel like it. Gamers are an easy target and a lot of people line up to take their swings.” That’s Legalism! – “‘Legalism’ The … Read More

ARTICLES I LIKE FROM AROUND THE WEB: (Click title to go to full article) Are You Going to Hurt Me? – “Autumn has descended at last. The heat of summer has slowly, stubbornly given way to the cool of autumn. The long summer days have surrendered to evenings that come too early, nights that linger lazily before yielding to dawn. Most days I find myself outside long before the sun has shown its face, running through darkened streets—my morning ritual. My mind works better when my body has been pushed. Three vignettes, three glimpses through my early-morning eyes.” Young Man, Young Woman: Set An Example – “I was always lousy at painting. ARTICLES I LIKE FROM AROUND THE WEB: (Click title to go to full article) Gospel-Centered Monster Making – “Some people wonder (others fuss about) why we at Mortification of Spin seem to devote so much energy to objecting to the celebrity culture and methods of Big Reformed(ish) Evangelicalism. That’s an easy question to answer. It’s bad for the church. Period. The Reformed community has created their own version of the monster made by broader evangelicalism; a monster they continue to suffer from. Just becasue our theology is better does not mean that we will avoid the dangers inherent in entrusting certain para-church ministries with the duties of the church. Just because we are Calvinists doesn’t mean that our celebrities are any … Read More

Pray for Those of Caesar’s Household

The church should be encouraged by Christians in positions of governmental authority. t is very easy for Christians to become discouraged when watching any cable news network, scrolling through their social media news feed or reading headlines from any news source. We read reports of threats to religious liberty, advancing erotic liberty, terrorism, the over-turning of pro-life legislation by the courts–the list goes on and on–and let’s not even mention the candidates for President of the United States. At every turn we see the very real threat of at least diminished religious liberty and, at most, a likely reality of real persecution of Christians at the hands of government and even corporate enterprise.  For me, and I suspect many Christians, … Read More

The Most Dangerous Religion in the World

Nate PickowiczChristianity1 Comment

f we polled the average person in America, asking them to identify what they consider to be the most dangerous religion in the world, we would undoubtedly hear a variety of answers. The answers might include Islam, various cults, or even Satanism. Certainly everyone has their perspectives and their reasons.  I’m going to argue that the most dangerous religion in the world is that which looks just like Christianity but, in fact, is not Christianity at all.

You Want Christian Outrage?! (An Alternative to Josh Feuerstein’s Starbucks Cup Rage)

Landon ChapmanChristianity4 Comments

Supposedly there is a large amount of Christian outrage over Starbucks removing all Christmas-y symbols from their cups this year.  In reality, we found out it was one guy, Joshua Feuerstein, who makes his living as a “Christian” shock jock of sorts and published this video that has since gone viral.  I put Christian in quotes because, well, just read this article by Pastor Gabe Hughes of WWUTT and you’ll see that Mr. Feuerstein is actually a modalist heretic. Anyway, our very own Pastor Nate Pickowicz realized he too was feeling some outrage coming on and decided to share it with the social media world in true Joshua Feuerstein style (Disclaimer: the video contains Biblical truth, the presentation is one-hundred percent … Read More

1 Chronicles 29:10-12  “So David blessed the LORD in the sight of all the assembly; and David said: Blessed are You, O LORD God of Israel our father, forever and ever. Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, indeed everything that is in the heavens and the earth; Yours is the dominion, O LORD, and You exalt Yourself as head over all. Both riches and honor come from You, and You rule over all, and in Your hand is power and might; and it lies in Your hand to make great and to strengthen everyone!” n these days of man-centered religion, verses like these have been ignored.
