ARTICLES I LIKE FROM AROUND THE WEB: (Click title to go to full article) When God Goes Big And I Go Small – “The Bible often speaks in broad words, in great sweeping statements. We often observe so little nuance in its words, so few exceptions to its commands. As we read the Bible we come across statements like these…” Fools and Wise Men – “Do you remember what it was like as a child to know your grandparents were coming for Christmas? If you were young enough, you probably didn’t have a strong concept of time—you simply knew they could arrive at any moment. That anticipation filled the day with excitement, as you eagerly kept watch for their arrival.” … Read More

ARTICLES I LIKE FROM AROUND THE WEB: (Click title to go to full article) Why I don’t watch football any longer – “Football and other sports can be fun as well as a distraction to the Christian life. For me, it has become a distraction that needs more moderation. At the end of this post, you can examine yourself, as to whether or not you’re a sportsaholic.” Would You Rather Have Blood Filled Hands or Beautiful Feet? – “‘Would You Rather…?’ has become a very popular game in the past few years. One of my favorite ‘would you rathers’ of all time is: would you rather have fingers the size of your legs, or legs the size of your fingers? The … Read More

Pray for Those of Caesar’s Household

The church should be encouraged by Christians in positions of governmental authority. t is very easy for Christians to become discouraged when watching any cable news network, scrolling through their social media news feed or reading headlines from any news source. We read reports of threats to religious liberty, advancing erotic liberty, terrorism, the over-turning of pro-life legislation by the courts–the list goes on and on–and let’s not even mention the candidates for President of the United States. At every turn we see the very real threat of at least diminished religious liberty and, at most, a likely reality of real persecution of Christians at the hands of government and even corporate enterprise.  For me, and I suspect many Christians, … Read More

ARTICLES I LIKE FROM AROUND THE WEB: (Click title to go to full article) Putin Can’t Stop the Gospel – “Every once in a while, a leader, whether it be a judge, a king, or a Czar, tries to do the impossible and shut down the Gospel. All throughout history many have attempted this impossible feat. Perhaps one of the most famous attempts occurred in 1673. The Lord Judge Magistrate of Bedford was fed up with John Bunyan and his preaching of the Gospel. John Bunyan was reaching thousands with the truth of scripture, and the judge obviously hated sound preaching. But when John Bunyan was told to stop, John Bunyan famously answered, ‘If I am freed today, I will preach … Read More

ARTICLES I LIKE FROM AROUND THE WEB: (Click title to go to full article) What’s Going On? – “What’s going on when Alton Sterling is openly slain by those sworn to ‘protect and serve’? What’s going on when those who are seeking to ‘protect and serve’ are brutality cut down on the streets of Dallas in the line of duty? What’s going on when over 60 people were shot in Chicago over the 4th of July weekend in predominantly black neighborhoods, with 32 of them shot within a 15 hour time frame–including children? What’s going on when famed author Toni Morrison implies that before she could agree to having a conversation on race she needs to see an officer shoot a white teenager … Read More

An Open Letter to My Theologically Inclined Friends

ey guys and gals, hope this finds you doing well. I want to chop it up with you guys for a minute about an attitude I have found incredibly disturbing in the last few months, especially since I’ve seen it in myself. The attitude is this: I have a view, I don’t much care for yours so I will treat it (and you) however I please. Now no one will put it that bluntly, that’s just plain mean, dude. No, we won’t say that but oh my, we behave like it. Like I said, that was something I saw in myself and it was an unlikely turn of events that exposed that rot. A few years ago, I left my church … Read More

ARTICLES I LIKE FROM AROUND THE WEB: (Click title to go to full article) The Woman Who Needed to Simply Believe – “Do you struggle with lack of assurance of salvation? Perhaps you’ve wrestled with this issue for some time, and have never come to a place where you were satisfied. So many times we complicate the matter and forget that Jesus said, Matthew 18:3 ‘Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.’” Profiting from the Prophets – “Every Christian knows the importance of reading their Bible, but many are overwhelmed with the task of devouring such a monstrous book! Often times, when Christians lose steam in their … Read More

ARTICLES I LIKE FROM AROUND THE WEB: (Click title to go to full article) Devotional Theology: God Breathes – “Our struggle today is to sift through the noise we hear. What if God is telling me something and I’m not listening? Or, what if God is trying to tell me something through someone else and I disregard them? What if I’m missing out on knowing God’s will and purpose for my life? What if parts of the Bible aren’t true because man wrote them? Is there a better way to hear from God than through what He has already revealed? Left unanswered, these questions can throw us off track, and we can lose confidence in God and His plan for … Read More

Christians Who Don’t Tip

Nate PickowiczChristianity3 Comments

e’ve all heard this scenario: A waiter comes back to his table to settle the bill and clean up, exhausted from his busy Saturday night shift. He grabs the leather holder and opens it up to find, in place of a tip, a tract that tells him of the worthlessness of money and his dire need for Jesus Christ. I have to admit, I’ve never been a waiter, but I have friends in food service who have all experienced this phenomenon. Now, our immediate reaction might be varied. Some might agree with this practice, signifying it with a hearty “Amen!” Others, however, might respond in disgust. What, dare I ask, would Jesus do? While the Bible does not have any verses … Read More
