True Freedom

am indeed thankful to live in the United States. I’m thankful for the men who some 241 years ago pledged their lives, fortunes and sacred honor for the cause of liberty over tyranny. I’m thankful for those who continue to labor and fight for freedom’s promise. Although, when I ponder my American citizenship I’m reminded by Scripture that I am only a sojourner in this land. My true citizenship belongs to the Kingdom of Christ and is my first priority. Hebrews 13:14 says, “For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come.” The truth is, no government or political organization can grant, negotiate, purchase or facilitate true freedom. True freedom is only granted … Read More

ARTICLES I LIKE FROM AROUND THE WEB: (Click title to go to full article) Evangelicals should be deeply troubled by Donald Trump’s attempt to mainstream heresy – “Donald Trump’s upcoming inauguration will include Paula White and possibly other members of his inner circle, Darrell Scott, ‘Apostle’ Wayne T. Jackson and Mark Burns. They’re all televangelists who hail from the ‘prosperity gospel’ camp. They advocate a brand of Pentecostal Christianity known as Word of Faith. Inaugurations are always curious rituals of American civil religion. It would not be surprising to see a non-Christian religious leader participating. But what’s problematic for me as an evangelical is how Trump’s ceremony is helping to mainstream this heretical movement.” Christian Celebrity Culture and Shot Glass … Read More

ARTICLES I LIKE FROM AROUND THE WEB: (Click title to go to full article) 4 Concerns About Jen Hatmaker – “Like Beth Moore, Jen Hatmaker is a speaker and author from Texas. And like Moore, she also is smart, quick, funny, and has a down-home way of speaking and addressing her followers. Hatmaker is a regular speaker with the popular IF:Gathering women’s conference that is simulcast in thousands of churches annually. I view Jen Hatmaker as the ‘heir apparent’ to Beth Moore’s mantle.” Trump or Hillary? ARTICLES I LIKE FROM AROUND THE WEB: (Click title to go to full article) In Order That You May Know – “What does biblical assurance look like? Can we spot the evidence of true faith and the Spirit’s sanctifying work in our lives? And how do we know what to look for? The apostle John’s first epistle is devoted to answering those very questions. Surely no other passage of Scripture confronts the false promises of no-lordship theology with more force than this brief but potent letter. John’s purpose statement is explicit: ‘These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life’ (1 John 5:13, emphasis … Read More

I appreciate the interactions that I’ve had with Professor Keathley in the past, and he comes across as a winsome and kind brother in Christ. Unfortunately, his recent blog on AiG’s position on speciation does not meet the standard of professionalism, scholarship, and charitable behavior toward a fellow brother in Christ.” ICWA, Lexi, and the worst of American history – “Today I want to give a summary of the foster … Read More

When God Awakened a Nation

Nate PickowiczChristianity, Series: Reviving New England0 Comments

he Puritan pilgrims that had come over from England had ventured to American shores in attempt to establish “pure” churches. They failed to create “New Jerusalem” but succeeded in creating a society that embraced Christianity. Within two generations of their arrival, zeal for purity in religion and for the law of God eventually produced hypocritical legalism and rigid formalism. By the end of the seventeenth century, many of the institutional churches in New England had a form of godliness, yet were empty of spiritual power. Their love for God and others had grown cold, while their fear of “worldliness” soon became manic. The hysteria came to a head during the 1692-1693 Salem Witch Trials, where twenty people were executed for … Read More
