  1. Great/fantastic sermon by John MacArthur. Nail on the head every time. REALLY looking forward to the podcast tomorrow , though. We have a lot of questions and concerns. I say “we”. Maybe it’s just me. I found entreatingfavor months ago when I was nose – deep in the Word and church shopping for my family, coming out of a large seeker sense church. Now…the podcast that helped inspire my search and encourage my discernment is going to be “monitored ” by a church I don’t know?

Yes, it was fabulous, wasn’t it?

Mr. Hoover, I completely understand your concerns, I do. But, as I’m certain you are aware through your study in scripture, we are biblically required to submit to our local elders/Pastor. What angers me is that so many of us, myself included, have been so wrongly treated and tought nonsense from these seeker-sensitive churches that our knee-jerk reaciton is that we must distance ourselves and go rogue.

The thing is, when you are part of a sound biblical church, one that centers on the Truth of the Word, that clings to right doctrine, it’s a blessing to submit to their leadership. I am in no way being disciplined by my new church. I willingly asked them to oversee me to ensure I stay in step with scripture while discerning.

Spending all one’s energy on discernment is like playing with fire. Discernment is but one component to a healthy walk with the Lord. As I mature, I realize that one may be discerning without always needing to be harsh. One can discern and be charitable at the same time. There are absolutely times to pound my chest and call something/someone out, but more often, a gentleness and kind rebuke/correction is all that is needed to set someone on the right path.

I think as the months go by you’ll see that my ministry is not being “monitored” in order to be held back, rather, I think you’ll see this ministry mature in the ways of the Lord and become and even more important asset to the body of Christ. Hebrews 13:17 says, “Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.”

I mean it when I say thank you, not only for your listernership/readership, but thank you for caring enough about this ministry to ask pointed, tough questions. It is people such as yourself that make the body of Christ so amazing.

      God bless, brother.

      1. Through many hours of listening to your podcasts, I have learned to trust your judgement and discernment. I will now trust you in these changes. I, too, eventually found a great church and pastor. I understand that you need to submit to their authority, if they are church leaders who line up with what the Word says. If anything else, I hope you always keep that spirit and wit (yeah, maybe some of its a little sarcastic…but hey, look at God’s sarcasm and guile in Job). I, and many others, enjoy seeing your kind of personality hone in on the wolves and false teachers. In all of your podcasts, you never lacked a loving, compassionate heart and always told the Truth. Please always keep to that. Just never lose that wit.
