ndeed, twenty-four months can feel like a lifetime. It was April 2014 that I began the ministry Entreating Favor and I never could have imagined they way it has blossomed. What began as an enjoyable way for me to share my Bible study notes and state an opinion on various theological issues has become a bona fide “ministry”. I do not even begin to think this was my doing; without question it’s of God alone. So, a year later in the summer of 2015 my now very good friend, Pastor Nate Pickowicz, joined me at Entreating Favor in writing (including his crown jewel the “Best Book in the Bible” series) and co-hosting the Fire Away! podcast. We’ve been very fortunate … Read More
ast year I commented on my amazement of what can happen in merely a year’s time. That amazement remains as this site turned two years old last Friday! Rest assured, this will not be an annual posting but I felt it pertinent to write another anniversary article due to the fact that so much has changed this past year. Further, it seems as though God continues to bless this ministry and for that, I am both grateful and humbled. I intend to keep this post pithy, which is against every fiber of my being, so I’m going to simply make a list of the things that happened this year and add a brief comment:
astor Nate and I were recently made aware of a most tragic situation involving a little girl in California. If you have not heard, there is a little girl who is being ripped from her family unjustly. It is our understanding they attend Grace Community Church, the church pastored by Dr. John MacArthur, and thus Dr. MacArthur made the situation public knowledge through a recent tweet. Since that time, I have learned that my very own pastor, who attended Grace for about 20 years, also knows this family personally. So, we wanted to take a moment to ask you to please consider signing the petition to bring little Lexi home. What follows is commentary from the petition page and a … Read More
ello! My name is Landon Chapman and I am the owner of EntreatingFavor.com and the Fire Away! podcast. I began the site in April 2014 and the podcast in August 2014 as an outlet for me to post my thoughts on various topics related to Christianity and the church; often sharing my notes from my personal Bible study. In the summer of 2015, Pastor Nate Pickowicz of Harvest Bible Church in Gilmanton, NH joined the site and we now co-labor in Christ together through Entreating Favor. In a relatively short time, we have developed a deep bond and truly consider ourselves brothers.
James 5:16 [ESV] “Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.” nless you’ve been living under a social media rock the last week or so, you’ve no doubt been made aware of the conflict between Pulpit & Pen and Dr. Karen Swallow Prior. As of the time of this publishing, a resolution seems nowhere in sight and the entire ordeal has served nothing more than to fracture the body of Christ greatly. Regretfully, I had a hand in promulgating this conflict by taking part in a podcast at Pulpit & Pen without having researched the facts myself first. To be clear, … Read More
James 1:17 [ESV] Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. t never ceases to amaze me what can happen in a year’s time. Exactly one year ago today I created my account with WordPress and had no idea what the future held for this website or even what I planned to do with it. I spend countless hours each week in prayer and studying the Word of God and figured I could write articles based on the hundreds of pages of notes I take.
Mark 16:6 [ESV] “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. hat does the cross mean to me? Everything. How could it not mean everything for a Christian? Paul said this in his first letter to the Corinthians, chapter 15 verses 16-20, “For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied. But in fact … Read More
As I’m sure most of you have already seen, there is a viral video circulating social media of an Oregon woman who, at the age of 29 years, has decided to end her life after having been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. This six-minute video clip explains her heartbreaking situation: [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPfe3rCcUeQ] What immediately stands out in that video is the heavy undertones of humanism and self-fulfillment. Of particular concern to me was the following comment, “The reason to consider life and what’s of value is to make sure you’re not missing out. Seize the day. What’s important to you, what do you care about, what matters? Pursue that. Forget the rest.” This breaks my heart on two levels. Obviously the … Read More
Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. t’s 1:20AM and my wife and kids are sleeping peacefully in their beds. I just started this whole “blogging” thing less than a month ago and due to my propensity to incite controversy in the name of salvation, I’ve put no less than five “editors” in my way before I can make a post so as not to give in to my sensationalist, provocative tendencies. But, when the heart begs to write, safeguards be damned. I’ll ask for forgiveness in advance as I have no doubt this entry will ramble and generally make a mockery of standard … Read More
fter re-devoting my life to Christ, I began to study the scriptures with voracity. I came to realize that I needed a way to release all that information I’d learned. So, this blog (and Facebook page) was born. You can read more about me and what I believe over on the About Me page. Please be patient as I get this site up and going. Posting frequency will be as follows: Daily – “The Round-Up” (A daily entry including timely articles, a sermon, and a couple short video messages.) Weekly – Each Tuesday morning, I will post an original article that I’ve written. (The topics will vary.) Thanks for stopping by and please, tell your friends!
